digital tools for working from home

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the number of tasks on your plate while working from home? When I started my work-from-home journey in 2012, it was a wild ride. Between keeping track of deadlines, managing my time, and ensuring I didn't show up to a video call in my pajamas, there were plenty of hiccups along the way.

But over time, I've found my stride. I've discovered some truly indispensable tools that have helped me streamline my tasks, stay organized, and really thrive in the remote working environment. These tools have become an essential part of my daily routine, helping to transform my work-from-home experience from chaotic to calm.

So, if you're a solopreneur, freelancer, or anyone navigating the world of remote work, this post is for you. I'm excited to share these tools with you, in the hopes that they can make your work-from-home life a little easier, just like they did for me.

  1. Loom is a screen recording and video messaging tool that I use to create explainer videos, share my screen with clients, and send quick video messages to my team. It's so much faster than writing an email, and it's a great way to get my point across. I use the free version which allows me to record videos of up to 5 minutes at a time. After I finished the recording I instantly get a link to the video that I can share with others.

  2. Adobe Acrobat Read is a PDF reader that has a great feature called "Read Aloud." This allows me to have long PDFs read to me while I can do something else, like work on another project, walk my dogs, clean the house or take a break. Such a time saver for PDFs with more than 10 pages.

  3. DeepL is a translation tool that I use to translate documents and emails into other languages. It's much more accurate than Google Translate, and it's a lifesaver when I need to communicate with clients or colleagues who speak other languages.

  4. ChatGPT (for sure you know) is a chatbot that I use to generate content ideas and video script ideas. It's a great way to get my creative juices flowing, and it's helped me to create some really great content.

  5. Notion is a note-taking and productivity tool that I use to keep all my ideas and information organized. It's a great way to keep track of projects, to-do lists, and client information. Notion also uses AI to help me stay organized and productive and come up with content ideas.

  6. Canva is a graphic design tool that I use to create social media posts, presentations, and other visuals. It's easy to use and has a ton of templates and features, so I can create professional-looking designs without having any design experience. It now also works with AI tools that can remove backgrounds in seconds and perform other very helpful tasks.

  7. Riverside is a podcast recording and editing tool that I use to record and edit my podcast. It's great for solo podcasters, and it has a ton of features that make it easy to create a professional-sounding podcast. I record the podcast episodes with my long term friend Melanie Peschel. The podcast is called "Home Sweet Business Home" but is recorded in German.

  8. Wondershare Filmora is a video editing tool that I use to edit my videos. It's easy to use and has a ton of features, including AI, so I can create professional-looking videos without having any video editing experience.

These are my trusty sidekicks in my work-from-home journey, tools that have turned my days from "Oh, where did I put that file?" to "Look at me nailing this remote work thing!"

Remember, it's all about finding what works best for you. Some of these tools may become your daily go-to, others may not suit your style, and that's okay. The key is to keep exploring until you find your perfect mix.

I hope you've found this insight into my work-from-home toolbox helpful. Maybe you're already using some of these tools, or perhaps you've discovered something new to try. Whatever your takeaway, I hope it brings a sprinkle of simplicity and a dash of fun to your remote working days.

As always, here's to happier, healthier, and more productive remote working. Stay fabulous, and take care!

All my best,

xx Silke
