regular workout routine for women

Do you ever feel like there just aren't enough hours in the day? Between work, family, and the never-ending to-do list, taking care of ourselves can often fall by the wayside. But here's the thing: prioritizing your well-being, especially through regular exercise, isn't selfish - it's an investment in your whole self.

Now, you might be thinking: "Exercise? When? I barely have time to shower, let alone squeeze in a gym session!" I get it, I've been there. Luckily, even small doses of movement can have a massive impact on your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. So, let's ditch the guilt and explore the incredible benefits of exercise that go far beyond just fitting into your jeans (although, that's a pretty sweet bonus too!).

1. Energy Booster: Feeling sluggish and drained? Exercise is your natural energy shot! Regular physical activity increases blood flow throughout your body, delivering oxygen and nutrients to your cells, leaving you feeling energized and ready to tackle the day. No more hitting the snooze button or relying on endless cups of coffee for a pick-me-up.

2. Stress Slayer: We all know the feeling – work deadlines looming, family commitments piling up, and stress creeping in. Exercise is your magic stress-relief wand! It triggers the release of endorphins, those feel-good chemicals that leave you feeling calmer and more positive. Plus, it's a fantastic distraction, allowing you to clear your head and de-stress in a healthy way.

3. Sharper Mind: Exercise is like a workout for your brain, too. It improves blood flow to your brain cells, promoting the growth of new connections and boosting memory, focus, and concentration. This means you can tackle tasks more efficiently, learn new things faster, and keep your mind sharp and vibrant.

4. Sleep Symphony: Struggling to catch those Zzz's? Exercise can be your bedtime buddy. Regular physical activity helps you fall asleep faster, sleep more soundly, and wake up feeling refreshed. It regulates your sleep-wake cycle, leaving you feeling energized throughout the day and ready to wind down peacefully at night.

5. Confidence Catalyst: Exercise isn't just about how you look, it's about how you feel. When you move your body regularly, you build strength, endurance, and resilience. This newfound sense of physical prowess naturally spills over into other areas of your life, boosting your confidence and self-esteem. You'll radiate an inner glow that comes from taking charge of your health and feeling good in your own skin.

6. Body Love Booster: Exercise helps you develop a more positive and accepting relationship with your body. It's about celebrating what your body can do, not just how it looks. As you experience the strength and capabilities of your body, you'll appreciate and respect it more, fostering a sense of body love and appreciation.

7. Immunity Invincibility: Feeling like you're constantly catching every bug going around? Exercise can be your shield! Regular physical activity strengthens your immune system, making you less susceptible to getting sick and helping you fight off those pesky viruses and bacteria more effectively. So, stay healthy and say goodbye to those unwanted illnesses!

8. Hormonal Harmony: Regular physical activity can positively impact your hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, potentially alleviating symptoms of PMS and even easing the transition through menopause. It can also help regulate insulin levels, contributing to better overall well-being.

9. Bone Strength Champion: As women, we're at greater risk for osteoporosis later in life. Exercise, especially weight-bearing activities like walking, running, and strength training, helps build and maintain strong bones, reducing the risk of fractures and keeping you active and independent for longer.

Okay, so you're convinced, but where do you even begin with a busy schedule?

Here's the good news: even small steps can make a big difference. Start by incorporating short bursts of movement into your day. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, go for a brisk walk during your lunch break, or do some quick bodyweight exercises at home while watching TV. Remember, every little bit counts!

Here are some additional tips to fit exercise into your busy life:

  • Find an activity you enjoy: This could be anything from dancing to swimming, hiking to cycling. When you find something you love, you're more likely to stick with it.
  • Schedule it in: Treat exercise like any other important appointment and block out time in your calendar. I simply use Google calendar for this purpose and I never miss a workout unless I am unwell.
  • Start small and gradually increase: Don't try to do too much too soon. Begin with a manageable amount of exercise and gradually increase the duration and intensity as you build your fitness level. My secret for never missing my workouts: I keep them to 15 minutes only but with a higher impact. I then add daily brisk walks of 20 - 40 minutes. This works perfectly for my busy schedule.
  • Find a workout buddy: Having a friend to exercise with can help you stay motivated and accountable.
  • Work with a health coach: A health coach can help you create a personalized exercise plan that fits your specific needs and goals, provides ongoing motivation and support, and ensures you're on track to achieve your health and fitness objectives.
  • Make it fun: Put on your favorite music, watch a funny show while exercising on a stationary bike, or explore new outdoor spaces during your walk. Make it enjoyable!

Remember, you are worthy of prioritizing your well-being. Start small, celebrate your wins, and watch as exercise becomes a powerful force for positive change in your life.
